Networks and mitigations

A manual mitigation cannot be started

Message Cause Remedy
Cannot change the manual mitigation setting while there is an ongoing manual mitigation. A manual mitigation is already running for the network. End the running mitigation and change the setting afterwards.
This IP address doesn't belong to the selected network. The IP address entered lies outside the address range of the network. Enter an address from the range of the network. Leave the field empty to mitigate the entire network.
Invalid ip. The entry is not a valid IP address. Enter a complete IPv4 or IPv6 address without spaces.
The network(s) couldn't be mitigated. The job failed on the server. Repeat the start after a short while. Before that, check whether a mitigation is already running for the network.

If the Start mitigation button is missing entirely, manual mitigation is not enabled for this network, or your user account does not hold administration rights. Only the SOC can change either.

A mitigation cannot be stopped

If the portal reports The mitigation(s) couldn't be stopped., the server did not accept the job. Repeat it after a short while.

Note

Only manually started mitigations can be stopped. A mitigation triggered automatically ends by itself once the attack subsides.

A network cannot be added or edited

The address of a network must be given as a normalised CIDR: the network address followed by the prefix, with no host bits set — for example 192.0.2.0/24, not 192.0.2.17/24.

Message Cause Remedy
The IP address should be in a normalised CIDR format (IPv4 up to /n, IPv6 up to /n) The format is wrong, or the prefix is smaller than permitted. Use the prefix limits stated in the message. They depend on how the installation is connected and are therefore part of the message itself.
For cloud scrubbing, IPv4 must be /24 or smaller, and IPv6 must be /48 or smaller. The address range entered for a network with cloud scrubbing is too small. Enter at most a /24 for IPv4 and at most a /48 for IPv6.
An error occurred while adding the network. Please try again shortly. The server did not create the network. Repeat the procedure. Check whether the network already exists.
An error occurred while editing the network. Please try again shortly. The server did not apply the change. Repeat the procedure.

A network cannot be deleted

If the portal reports You cannot delete the network IP address because a mitigation is currently running., a running mitigation is blocking the deletion.

  • End the mitigation of the network.
  • Delete the network again afterwards.
